This promo arrived in our inbox several days ago from German upstart IDM label Force Intel (part of the vertical.fm label group), so a warm welcome and thank you goes out to them.
With this album, veteran Hungary-based producer Antendex takes the art of the sine-wave to an entirely new level. While the album is fairly minimal and sparse, it is manages keep some highly focused and seriously beautiful melodies in order, which is what makes it an absolute delight to kick back and listen to from start-to-finish!
This appeared on our radars today. We thought it was awesome. It's a glitched-out cover of a rock-song by Superfiction, done by Boston-based producer Encanti and featuring vocals of the diversely talented Zebbler. Plus it's available as a free download!
The seventh annual Emrg+N+See Festival will bring fresh sounds out of the underground and into the forest July 16-19, 2010 for an outdoor celebration of the creative community in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Four days of music, dancing, art and freedom of self-expression await those who venture out to Emrg+N+See, one of Oregon’s premier cultural experiences.
Yet again the festival proves itself as a tastemaker in the West Coast arts scene with a lineup that pushes boundaries and eschews the usual headliners heard every other weekend at every other party. Emrg+N+See favors up-and-coming, left field artists who offer a diverse range of live music from dub-influenced psychedelic electronica and hip hop-based IDM to dubstep, glitch hop, experimental beat music and other types of future sound.
Lineup includes: Slugabed, Mala, March Fourth Marching Band, Sean Hayes, Funginears, Free the Robots, Vibesquad, Eprom, MartyParty, Hovatron, Emrg+N+See Orchestra, Mux Mool, Nasty Nasty, Teebs, Shlohmo, Baths, Bass Science and dozens more electronic and live music artists who are shaping the evolution of sound with their bold creative endeavors.
Music is just one facet of this festival that also provides grounds for creative expression in the visual realm, including live painters, theatrical performances, art installations and stunning light displays. More of a participatory event than a stand-and-watch show, Emrg+N+See also offers workshops to engage its guests with activities such as laughter meditation, fundamentals of pop-and-lock dancing, bass yoga, stilt walking, fire spinning and more.
Emrg+N+See takes place about an hour south of Portland, Oregon at Miller Brothers Ranch in the hills east of Salem. Nestled in a lush canyon, the setting for the weekend includes soft meadowlands, old-growth evergreens, ancient oaks, a swimming pond and a clear stream meandering through the length of the venue, with easy access provided to the shady camping on the grass nearby.
Vendors will be on hand with food and drink as well as unique goods from independent artists including tooth bling, skin food, booty capes, feather earrings, fair-trade Peruvian textiles and much more. Emrg+N+See is an all-ages event and families are welcome to come and enjoy a special play area and free admission for children under 15. Individual camping is included in the ticket price ($140 presale), with additional fees for cars, RV parking and VIP passes.
Glitch.FM/Daly City Records sexyman extradoardinaire Sugarpill has serendipitously dropped a straight-ballin pay-as-you-will release of glitch-hop remixes.
Lorn’s debut full-length album Nothing Else (Brainfeeder) is an opus rich in many colors of emotion, from menacing depths to dejected melancholia to the victorious acceptance of defeat. The album has little context to orient you, resting as it does amidst the chaos of a post-Cosmogramma world where boundaries are but a quaint memory and rules are something someone else must have been concerned about a long time ago. Listeners are forced to understand the album’s story by themselves, which from first drop is indeed drenched in an eerie, militaristic darkness.
However Nothing Else is no evil work, no matter how many times music journalists have used the word “dark” to describe it. So too the theme of militarism; yes of course this is a battle myth: in Track 1, “Grandfather,” the foreboding storm appears on the horizon as the evil begins to gather; in Track 2, “None an Island,” defense preparations get underway as warriors bide their fear with business and bid farewell to their loves; in Track 3, “Army of Fear,” forces are called to arms and line up to fight, to defend, to die… and the battle proceeds.
Listening to this album an epic strand of images pops into my head: ogres, beasts, monsters, spewing volcanoes, rumbling black streams, long-trodden trails, howls from the netherworld…I could write the script right now. Your adventure will no doubt be different, however the evocation of angst and fury and death knock you in the face so forcefully that many listeners, content with the viscerality of the music and its threat of violence, plunge the album’s depths no more. Saturated with blood-red stimulation they pull up the initial layer, crack it in their teeth and leave.

The ever-so-enigmatic and insanely talented Bil Bless (known to some as Son of the Electric Ghost / SOTEG) has just (quietly) dropped his new album "The Life Mechanism 2" via Bandcamp as a pay-as-you-will release. Filled with a delicate balance of blistering explosions of distorted glitchy ornateness and beautifully crafted synth patches over dark melancholy melodies. The release sports a bit more glitch-hop influenced feel than his previous work, and with this he refreshingly proves that not all glitch-hop needs to sound like The Glitch Mob (not that we have anything against this!).
So go on. Pick up and support release now. You'll be jamming this on both the iPod and the dance-floor for years to come.
Some may have noticed that Camp Bisco this year has a much more basslicious lineup than it has previously. In fact their annual remix competition now features a Bassnectar song for remixing and a Glitch.FM favorite Freddy Todd has entered an absolutely stunning remix of Cozza Frenzy to the competition:
Minneapolis, MN, USA based Analogic Recordings is a Breakbeat label, currently focusing on Dubstep, that was founded in January 2010 as the brainchild of Dave Machination and Andy Critical Consciousness. The premise behind Analogic is to bring their combined exposure of a plethora of sonic styles together along side producers from all over the world to give the dubstep scene a taste of a fresh style.
To that end the label snagged a show on Glitch.FM to showcase loads of released tracks as well as a healthy dose of dubs from across the scene bringing the dubstep style, that can only be described as Analogic, to the masses.
